Lolli’s Garden

Lolli’s Garden was designed last Fall and the top was made… and then it sat and sat and sat. I shared the flimsy at a local quilt shop during a trunk show in December and asked for name suggestions. I’m sorry to say, none really grabbed me, so it continued to sit…or stare at me from my design wall.

On Christmas Day i learned i was finally going to be what some call grandma, grammy, mimi, gigi, nana … I choose to be a lolli. Why? Because my mom has always accused me of living in la la land. Trust me, it’s a happy place and the skies are blue.

I’m not one to get overly excited, however this is hands down THE most exciting thing ever!!

Here’s momma Erin a few months ago with our Barley Boy keeping a watchful eye on Samuel.

A few weeks past, i pulled down the unnamed flimsy and of course right away the name came to me… Lolli’s Garden. There is a time and season for everything.

Samuel’s daddy Tucker, is and has forever been a bug lover from the day he was born. He use to take bug jars to school … no, not just elementary school….high school. I feared for his life often. baahaaaa! Here we are at his college graduation with his degree in biology.

I had a lot of fun machine quilting Lolli’s Garden! I toyed with the idea of adding black spots to the ladybugs, and auditioned black and white checked fabric (used in the binding), small print black fabrics, and even black wool. None of them worked…it was all too much. So, i decided to give my little ladybugs wings to fly! And that is just what i plan to give Sweet Samuel.

In the next few days, i will be adding a tutorial on how to create the feathered wings and how i quilted the rest of Lolli’s Garden. It’s nothing terribly difficult if you know how to feather….and learning is really just practice, practice, practice.

So stay tuned and i’ll let you know when that tutorial is on my website.

So now that you know the back story….I am happy to report, the pattern is available! Not only is it available, you will find kits for Lolli’s Garden at Need’l Love.

The kits use fabrics exclusively designed by Renee Nanneman for Andover Fabrics.
