Piecing Instructions
Egg-5 is very similar to the previous egg block with the eggception of the hour glass center.
Begin by drawing a diagonal line on the wrong side of the lighter 3-1/2” square and place right sides together with the darker 3-1/2” square.
Stitch 1/4” away on either side of the drawn line. Cut apart on the drawn line, revealing 2 half square triangles. Repeat for a total of 12 half square triangles.
Press towards the darker fabric
Place 2 half square triangles right sides together with opposite fabrics on top of each other. Once again, draw a diagonal line and stitch 1/4” away on either side of the line.
Cut apart on the drawn line, press and you will have 2 hourglass blocks. Trim each to measure 2-1/2” square.
Sew 3 hour glass blocks together, pressing seams open. Sew to the 4-1/2” x 6-1/2” top egg fabric and to the 3-1/2” x 6-1/2” bottom egg fabric.
Using the same measurements and trimming techniques used in the previous egg blocks, add the background 5” x 2-1/2” rectangles to the top corners and the 2-1/2” squares to the bottom corners. Egg-5 will measure 6-1/2” x 9-1/2”.
Embellish
Using Roxanne’s Glue Baste It, secure ric rac 3/4” away from the hour glass center and hand stitch in place. Make a total of (4) Egg-5 blocks.
Here is another way you can set your hourglass blocks. However, the seams don’t nestle together which cause it to be more difficult to line up. I actually made two eggs of each hourglass designs, which you will see in the final Easter Egg Hunt reveal!
With Egg-5 completed, you will have a total of 20 egg blocks…and we are ready to move onto sashing this coming Friday!
